Course Outline:

1. Getting Started

To begin, participants will learn the basics of Excel: how to open and close it, how to use the interface, how to create a basic spreadsheet and workbook, how to save and open workbooks, and how to get help.

2. The New Interface

Next, participants will closely examine the new interface, including the Quick Access Toolbar and each of the default tabs.

3. Excel Basics

 In this section, participants will learn more about creating spreadsheets, including how to work with cells, columns, rows, and ranges; adding worksheet labels; basic Excel features and functions; moving data; using Smart Tags; using option buttons; and using Excel's review tools (including spell check, AutoCorrect, and Find and Replace).

4. Editing Your Workbook

 Participants will learn how to change the way their data appears, including using conditional formatting, the Format Painter, and styles. Participants will also receive an introduction to creating and editing charts.

5. Printing and Viewing your Workbook

This section will focus on using the View tab, Print Preview, and Excel's various printing commands.

6. Advanced File

Tasks Participants will learn how to use My Computer within Excel, various ways to save their files, and how to use and create templates.

7. Working with Functions and Formulas

This section will take an in-depth look at Excel formulas and functions, including the IF function. Participants will also learn how to use formula troubleshooting tools, named ranges, AutoCalculate, and array formulas.

8. Managing Tables

Believe it or not, you can actually use Excel 2007 as a basic database application. This section will explain how to do that through a discussion of tables, records, fields, filters, and technical concerns.

9. Enhancing your Workbook

 Participants will learn how to add shapes, SmartArt, text boxes, WordArt, ClipArt, embedded objects, and signature lines to their workbook.

10. Finalizing your Workbook

This section will explore some of Excel's security tools, including the Protect Sheet command and the Lock command. We will also look at two new tools: the Compatibility Checker and the Document Inspector. Next, we will look at using Excel data in Word, Access, and Outlook, and at saving Excel data in common formats (including PDF) to be read by non-Office applications.

11. Advanced Topics

Participants will learn how to use Excel Options to change their user name, default font, default file format, and screen theme. Participants will also learn how to use Office diagnostic tools and the Excel viewer.

12. Getting the Most from your Data

This section will explore some of Excel's data analysis tools, including the outlining feature, subtotals, PivotTables, scenarios, and what-if analysis.

13. Excel and the Internet

 This section will look at some tools used to link Excel data to the Internet, including hyperlinks, Web queries, and Excel services. Participants will also learn how to save their workbooks as web pages.

14. Advanced Excel

Tasks Participants will learn how to create and use shared workbooks; use custom AutoFill lists; use VLOOKUP; and how to link, consolidate, and combine workbooks.

16. Add-Ins, Smart Tags and Digital Security

Participants will explore how to use the Trust Center, how to manage add-ins, how to use Information Rights Management, how to add a digital signature to their workbook, and how to create custom Smart Tags.

17. Macros, VBA, and Excel Programming

This section will introduce participants to macros and Visual Basic programming.

18. Expert Topics

To conclude the course, participants will learn how to use Excel to create and program forms, how to publish Excel data to a SharePoint server, and how to use advanced functions (including PMT, FV, and logical functions).
